About Thayer Knives

I am a craftsman from Indiana. For the last forty years I have been a mechanic in the paper and chemical industry also a construction contractor when younger. In 1988 I attended the ABS school and currently hold a journeyman smith rating with the ABS. During the time I was working full time, knife making was a part time hobby. Now that I have semi retired I will make knives full time. My objective is to make a top quality knife that is most of all functional, comfortable in your hand and pleasing to the eye. A working piece of art that can last a lifetime and handed down as a family heirloom for generations to come. The entire process forging, grinding, heat treating, tempering, fit and finish are all done in house from start to finish by me. All my knives are tested before they are shipped to make sure the edge holds up and the knife functions as it should.
