About RENG Lighting by Brendan Bass

The RENG product line is inspired by the desire to make lighting once again a celebration of craft and makers. The entire collection is designed by Brendan Bass and produced by small family-run factories and workshops throughout Italy. Thirty years ago, when Brendan launched his first lighting line, Chart House, he was driven by his vision to create a traditional yet tailored brand of lighting and accessories. In the 1990s, the lighting market was dominated by brands that embraced the 'over-designed.' During that era, there was a void—an absence of tasteful design, with almost no one preserving heritage or traditional inspiration. By the early 2000s, the lighting industry had moved to a model of homogeneous mass production. He felt that the story behind the craft of design and making was lost and replaced with the story of the lowest price. Thus in 2017, Brendan designed RENG to create a visceral line between consumer and maker, consumer and designer. Who designed it and who’s hands crafted it are an important part of the RENG purchase experience.
