About Atwood Family Dental
Dr. Atwood was raised in a small town in Southern Alberta, Canada, as the fourth of seven children. He grew up involved in church and sports, and played high school basketball. Two of his older sisters were dental assistants, which may have influenced his decision to pursue a career in dentistry. Dr. Atwood earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Alberta in 2003. While there, he completed his U.S. board exams and earned awards for the student with the greatest potential in fixed prosthodontics (crowns and bridges) and orthodontics. He worked for two years at a practice in central Alberta, but both winters were long, with periods of temperatures of -67 F. The Atwoods decided to look for work further south. Dr. Atwood got licensed for Texas and moved to Midland where he practiced from 2005 through 2011. In January 2012, Dr. Atwood purchased the practice of Dr. James Edmondson, who had been practicing in Odessa for well over 30 years.
